Leaf blowers are available in gas or electric-powered motors. Leaf blowers are a great asset to any backyard clean-up job even when the leaves are not falling. Use a leaf blower to collect grass clippings, debris, and leaves into a pile, so picking up after your hard work doesn't seem as big of a job.
Important information to consider when purchasing a leaf blower includes the velocity at which the machine operates to force air out. This air that is forced out is measured in MPH and volume, measured in cubic feet per minute CFM. These two features determine the true power and utility of the leaf blower. With a smaller machine the cost will be lower but so will the power -- usually just over 100 mph, with a volume of 280 CFM. On larger models, the cost is more and so is the power -- they can be more than 200 mph with a volume of 350 CFMs or more.
Also consider your yard size, if you have a small yard, usually a quarter acre or less, you can use a smaller machine. Especially choose a smaller machine if you plan to use it only on your patio, walkway and driveway rather than your lawn. A larger machine is recommended for anything over an acre. Always remember to use ear protection, especially if you are going to purchase a gas-powered leaf blower. You're also going to blow around a lot of dirt and other debris, so it would be a good idea to invest in eye protection as well. |
